A useful resource designed to build students' confidence when it comes to analysing texts. They are given a selection of short extracts from pre-1914 texts to read, explore, analyse or use as a jumping-off point for some creative writing. Teaching notes and suggestions are included and the extracts are taken from the following texts: 
  • Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen 
  • Mary Barton by Elizabeth Gaskell 
  • Jock of the Bushveld by Percy Fitzpatrick
  • The Hound of the Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle 
  • A Tramp Abroad by Mark Twain 
  • Dracula by Bram Stoker
