Rachel Bateman is second in department for English at a school in Macclesfield, Cheshire. She has been teaching for eight years and has taught A level English Language since the start of her career. As students prepare for January modules, it's important to practise responding to a variety of texts. Language and mode mini-text analysis contains a series of short written, spoken and blended mode texts suitable for group or individual revision exercises. The references to the ENGA1 mark scheme are useful as well.
I find that images are an effective way to engage students in an analysis or categorisation activity and helps give potentially drier grammatical concepts a real-life context. The She sells sea shells trail is a comprehensive set of visually stimulating and creative resources, closely linked to the ENGB1 assessment. Coursework investigations should be well underway by now, but to support the later stages of the project and give students an opportunity to reflect on what they have produced so far, the Language investigation course book is a well-structured and accessible guide to ENGB4. |
