Tart
|
These resources comprise a set of teaching and learning activities around a single word – TART - and materials include the full Oxford English Dictionary entry for the word. Although it is designed for the exploration of language change, it could also be used for language and gender, language investigation, and learning about lexicography and dictionaries. The Tart case study opens up an enquiry about what we mean when we say a word or meaning is ‘in the language’. This raises the question: ‘in whose language?’ There may be very different understandings and practices in a single word in use and these may indicate ongoing language change. The activities show students they have expertise and methods for finding out about language change beyond the information recorded in official sources. |
