Students consider the importance of conflict as a literary dynamic and look at the opening to a story which fails to engage its readers. They look at some common conflict tropes in fiction and think of their own examples from books they have read. They then rewrite the opening to the story with added conflict!

I intend to use this as a cover lesson for a bright Year 9 class who are just starting to consider what makes for effective narrative writing in preparation for their first CA piece.
