Research the Globe Theatre
This helpful resource acts as an introduction to William Shakespeare and his stagecraft at the Globe Theatre, London.
The activities are useful for KS3 English students, learning about Shakespeare’s life and works in Elizabethan England and those beginning to dig deeper into the context surrounding Shakespeare’s plays.
The resource encourages students to research Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, its physical environment as the original Globe and develop an understanding of the staging of plays during Shakespeare’s life, such as Hamlet, Macbeth and Othello.
There is the potential during research to consider the similarities and differences between the first Globe and the second, due to the fire that destroyed the original theatre. Students can also think about theatre history and how the staging of plays may have influenced Shakespeare’s playcraft.
Students then label the Globe Theatre diagram to develop their understanding of the physical nature of the stage.
