Media Studies library
Kirsty Green teaches English and Media Studies at Oakwood Park Grammar School in Kent. Here are her top picks for the summer: Media representation of the London riots is a current and engaging resource which encourages students to explore the controversial issue of the media's representation of young people in the riots. It is sure to provoke fiery debates and discussion!
Women in music works as an individual research task but would also lend itself well to group work, stimulating strong discussion about the differing representation of female artists. I would give groups an album cover to annotate using the questions as prompts for analysis and I'd probably throw in a bit of Lady Gaga to spice things up! Hot of the press is a great interactive and comprehensive loop card activity to help students revise Galtung and Ruge's news values. Students have to be really on the ball in this pacey match up game! Alternatively if you want to browse our Media Studies resource libraries, use the links at the top of the page. |
