 GCSE English Literature - Option for Oral coursework - AQA/A - Lesley10/01/2004
Has anybody done this before and what are the implications?  How does one set this up?  Any experts out there?

As far as I know you can also use it as cross-over for the Shakespeare element of the English paper. I did this last year (admittedly for B, but the criteria are the same) with 'Merchant of Venice' and it worked a treat. We looked at Act IV - the trial scene - and everyone had to choose a character. We worked in groups and re-enacted the scene with the students using their own words. We then hot-seated and the rest of the class asked questions either in character or as themselves. I was the Duke, so that I could direct proceedings. I cleared my method of assessment with the board and you can download and adapt the forms from www.firstwitch.net - click on the course work link. I also devised a teacher assessment form which is not on the site, but is very simple - it says Teacher Assessment, the student's name, a space for comments and a grade. Both forms were submitted as course work evidence. Hope this helps.

I have had success with an oral piece of coursework on Romeo and Juliet for low ability KS4. I have resources for this if you let me know your email address. fionashoesmith@lineone.net
