Story analysis

An explanation sheet which summarises the core aspects for critical analysis of a prose text.

This would work well as an introductory resource for GCSE English Literature, or to consider the basics when looking at an unseen fiction extract for the first time. 

The resource lists the following features for analysis:

• characterisation
• plot and structure
• setting and atmosphere
• style and language
• symbolism
• viewpoint / narrative style
• social and historical background / context
• themes.
