A worksheet with activities for Chapters 2 and 5 of 'The War of the Worlds'. The first activity asks students to read Chapter 2 with a focus on how the author creates atmosphere, with techniques like alliterative phrases, use of hindsight and varying sentences. The next activity does something similar but for Chapter 5. Following this, students can choose their own extract from the text and analyse how the setting and a particular atmosphere has been created.
The final activity focuses on H G Wells' use of colour adjectives and how these can help to create a particular atmosphere.
