I wanted to use it this for my new year 7 to explain different sentence types, but I became confused! Complex sentences are made up of at least two clauses (parts).
The main clause makes sense by itself.
The subordinate clause gives extra information and does not make sense if you read it without the main clause.
For example:
Screaming madly, (subordinate clause) he ran away from the house. (main clause)
How is 'Screaming madly' a subordinate clause and not a participle?

As a quick complete and return exercise as these were the errors my students were making. Will use again. Thank you.
