This is a geography skills based resource looking at the relationship between the magnitude of earthquakes and the number of fatalities. It is an excellent hypothesis-testing exercise. Students follow step-by-step instructions to complete this investigation. They begin by locating the earthquake events globally and then assess a set of data by creating a scatter graph and completing a Spearman's rank analysis. They then consider other human and physical factors which may influence how hazardous an earthquake is.

Teaching notes to offer guidance and answers to the different graphical and statistical skills tasks are included within the resource.

Great way to link in skills development for the NEA and exams, with relevant content for the Tectonics unit. The only thing i'd tweak (if I had time) was the earthquakes - given that they only go to 2011, it seems very out of date!
