Celebrate the festive season with an original take on the classic letter to Father Christmas task! Students develop their writing skills in a series of Christmas-themed letter writing options.

A Christmas letter template, writing frame and useful word bank are included in this resource to help KS3 students develop their written fluency and their confidence with the letter form.

With a choice of four Santa tasks, English students can create their own personalised letter with this free printable letter worksheet.

An extract from the lesson worksheet: 

It’s that time of year again when you’ll need to brush up your letter writing skills for that all important letter to Father Christmas.  Before you begin, you’ll need to remind yourself of the layout and style of writing letters for a specific purpose and audience.

Choose from the options below.

  1. Write a letter to Father Christmas about last year’s presents. Thank him for the wonderful presents you received, explaining how they have influenced your life over the last year and will make a big impact on your life to come. Tell him how deserving you are of some equally fantastic presents this year.
  2. Imagine you are one of Father Christmas’s elves. You feel that you have been treated unfairly at work, and you’re fed up of such a demanding workload. Write a letter of resignation to Father Christmas (and remember to ask for a reference!).
