A practical worksheet to encourage key stage 3 students to write focused paragraphs using the ‘point evidence explanation’ technique.

The worksheet demonstrates how to use PEE in a ready-written paragraph and then provides practice in PEE paragraph writing. The context is the simple topic of the school holidays so that students can concentrate on paragraph structure and essay writing skills.

An extract from the resource:

Task: Have a go at completing the other PEE paragraphs for this essay.

1. Complete the point for this paragraph:

… I’ve been to lots of different places: some in Britain, like Cornwall and Scotland, and others much further away like Florida and Turkey.  I really enjoy starting the journey and finding out about a completely different place.  Everywhere I’ve been has had interesting places to visit.  I don’t have time to go away in term time.

2. Complete the evidence for this paragraph:

I really enjoy catching up with friends during the summer holidays … I know I can relax and enjoy myself when I see them and I don’t have to worry about school work.

3. Complete the explanation for this paragraph:

I love the weather during the summer.  Even in Britain most days are sunny, though it does rain sometimes.  Some of the best summer holidays I can remember had heat waves when the temperature crept up to 35 degrees! …

4.       Now write a whole PEE paragraph on why you enjoy the summer holidays using PEE.  You could write about why seeing friends makes the summer holidays enjoyable, or chose your own reason.  Use colours to highlight the point, evidence and explanation of the paragraph.
