A worksheet to explore the energy balance between food intake and activity. It could be used when discussing a healthy diet or as an introduction to energy. Perfect as a quick starter to promote discussion.

Students are asked to calculate the amount of energy that a young person would use in everyday activities such as walking, sitting in lessons, standing and running.

Generally a good resource, but I wrote on top to include what I have called "chemical reactions to keep the body warm". It's important that we don't give the idea that all the energy we burn is used on exercise, the vast amount of energy used up is on our basal metabolic rate. I also wrote that these "chemical reactions to keep warm" occurred throughout the entire morning.

For me, this topic comes after a topic on interdependence, in which we do a lesson on endothermy.
