This KS3 French worksheet is intended to help learners express opinions in speaking and writing.

It includes four opinion phrases: j'adore, j'aime, je n'aime pas and je déteste. Students start by categorising French words (for food, animals and family members) and names of TV programmes and musicians under each of the four opinions, according to their personal preferences. This information could be used to practise paired speaking, with students comparing their views.

There is also a reading text, with comprehension questions in English, about a range of opinions and reasons, as well as some connectives. It includes some other key French verbs in the present tense: avoir, être and habiter. The aim of the reading task is to challenge students to work out meanings for themselves. Many of the French phrases can be learned as language chunks, and students can use the text as a model for their own written work.

An extract from the reading text:

J’aime beaucoup le chocolat et la pizza, mais je n’aime pas les oranges. Je déteste les araignées, mais j’adore les lapins. J’ai un lapin blanc, qui s’appelle Bobo.
