A KS3/4 investigation activity to discover pi.

The worksheet has 9 sections:

  • You will need - a list of equipment needed
  • Collect your data -for 10 circular objects students are asked to measure the diameter and circumference.
  • Plot your data - students plot their results on a scatter graph and draw a line of best fit
  • Make predictions - given the radius or diameter, students use their line of best fit to predict the circumference. They then draw and check.
  • Make observations - for each object, students calculate the ratio of the circumference to the diameter of the circle
  • Conclude - what have they found?
  • Teacher's notes
  • Equipment - resources for the lesson
  • Collecting data -  a table for students to record their data.
