This resource focuses on what equipment you need to survive in Antarctica. The students are asked to choose 10 items from a range of equipment and explain their choices for an Antarctic expedition survival kit. Climate statistics are provided for Vostok Station to assist them with their choices.

This would be an excellent starter activity which could develop into a research lesson. Extension tasks are included to develop their understanding of the Antarctic climate.

A useful activity which I used as a cover lesson that I needed in a hurry - links with the idea of the 'What not to Wear' activity in Discovering Antarctica, and the kit list on the late Henry Worsley's Shackleton Solo website, which was particularly affecting when used with students who didn't know the sad end to the story: http://shackletonsolo.org/equipment/
