Role play/debate/discussion

Students choose from a range of potentially tricky scenarios and speak persuasively in the role of upset neighbour, angry resident or TV soap loving relative, among others.

The task involves pairs taking opposing sides of each of five arguments, and reaching a resolution of some sort.

These real-life situations help students to develop thinking and reasoning skills, negotiating skills and their persuasive ability to convince someone of their point of view.

The activity would work well as a starter activity for a lesson on speaking persuasively or as part of PSHE work on respect and appreciating multiple viewpoints.
