How much sugar are we drinking?
A resource to stimulate discussion of the (often surprising) sugar content of a variety of food and drinks. The first activity is a quiz for students to predict which food and drinks contain the most sugar.
This can be followed with a discussion about the effects of consuming too much sugar on peoples health - such as type 2 diabetes, obesity and tooth decay.
To practice their maths skills students are given the equation for calculating BMI and some data for four individuals so they can work out their BMIs and decide if they are a healthy weight. Students can then suggest healthy eating advice.
