Differentiated
A series of worksheets which could be used as a booklet to introduce the topic of family in German. It includes reading tasks, puzzles, speaking activities and differentiated writing frames. Answers are provided.

Students start by working in pairs to say how many brothers and sisters they have, according to the pictures representing their siblings. They then use the family tree to complete the ten sentences and do some speaking. A reading text enables students to complete Petra’s family tree with the names and ages of her relations and the vocabulary box enables students to describe each person’s family situation

Two differentiated grids scaffold students’ descriptions of their own families. The first is a simpler version while the second contains more details. Students could use this for writing or speaking, perhaps reading their prepared description to a partner, who could draw pictures to represent what they have understood.

Finally, the crossword activity would be a good extension, plenary or homework task.

Really good resource, especially the reading task where students filled in names and ages on the family tree.
Crossword is a bit of a disaster though - hardly any answers actually fit!
