Racing around the meanders!

This resource focuses on meander river features. Students use a variety of approaches in this activity to show their knowledge of the process operating within a meandering river channel. Students have to show understanding to the velocity of the river flow and how the cross section changes.

This would make an excellent plenary to a lesson on meanders and ox bow lakes. There is an accompanying PowerPoint which shows migrating meanders on the Mississippi over the last 1000 years. Also included are teaching notes offering guidance and answers to the tasks included.
