AQA practice exam question: responsibility in 'Frankenstein'
This supportive resource features an essay question based on an extract from Chapter 10 of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, designed in the format of the AQA GCSE English Literature exam.
The resource includes the extract and a practice question, based on the theme of responsibility, as an example of what students may expect in the 19th-century novel section of GCSE English Literature Paper 1.
Students can use the extract to help consolidate their textual understanding, and support their response to key characters, such as Victor Frankenstein, Robert Walton and De Lacey. The resource also enables students to explore authorial motivation and technique, through an analysis of how Shelley uses language for effect.
Although this resource does not include a plot summary, revision guide or mark scheme, students can use their responses to feed into revision resources or quizzes and use an AQA GCSE English Literature Paper 1 mark scheme to support self- or peer-assessment.
