A worksheet resource to develop fluency on the area of 2D shapes for KS3 or Foundation GCSE.

There are four sections: parallelograms, trapeziums, triangles and irregular (compound) shapes, each begins with a top tip for finding the area of that shape then a worked example followed by practice questions to reinforce the skill. All dimensions of the shapes are given, so students need to think carefully and choose the correct lengths.

Brilliant! -nice to use to extend the idea that triangles and trapezia are half a parallelogram, plus great that the correct sides need to be selected...really gets the kids thinking!

I got the kids to develop this idea. Using the 'T for .... T for 2 .... divide by 2....' also gets the pupils to learn the method for triangles and trapeziums and not to rely on remembering the formula.
