A quick learning check or quiz to check students' understanding of the key narrative events in Volume 1 of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. 

This classroom worksheet is useful as an overview, as a revision activity or to check students' understanding of plot after independent or class reading. Students place events in Chapter 1-8 in order, starting with Walton's letters. 

The resource includes answers for self or peer marking in class (or as a teacher's aid).

Volume 1: Walton’s first letters

 

Walton writes that his ship became encased by ice and they saw a “gigantic man with dogs and a sled”.

 

Walton’s men then say they have found a stranger, who looks exhausted, on the ice. He is taken aboard.

 

Walton writes from St Petersburg to explain his ambitions and desires to his sister.

 

The stranger warns Walton of the dangers of ambition.
