Caxton's eggs
Students explore the roots of English standardisation by looking at the influence of William Caxton. Students complete a short independent research task about Caxton before looking at an extract from Caxton's Eneydos where he discussed the problems caused by language variety, when 'eggs' where also called 'eyren'.
This resource could also be used for exam practice if students were to annotate and analyse the data, as there are extensive teaching notes and answers looking at the lexical, semantic, orthographic, phonological, morphological and grammatical features of the text.
