Step 1: Planning a lesson A lesson should never be seen as separate from the wider unit of work – it should tie into a bigger picture of skills and knowledge. Your scheme of work should be the route map, really.
These are the main questions to think about.
- How can I establish what the students might already know?
- What do I want the students to know?
- How will the students need to apply it?
- How will the students show themselves (and me) that they’ve moved on?
- What are the potential areas of difficulty that the students might experience?
This resource accompanies the article 'Plan, teach, mark: the magic roundabout', where Andy explains how to plan lessons so that they are about learning and not exhausting you.
