Students use five detailed case studies of white people's reactions to civil rights events in 1960s America and consider the impact of these reactions on the civil rights movement. Some of the events included are: the Freedom Rides of 1961, the enrolment of James Meredith at the University of Mississippi in 1962, and the actions of Bull Connor in Birmingham, Alabama.
