This narrow reading activity about the weather is designed to help lower-ability students of French at key stage 3 or key stage 4 to remember essential chunks of language.

It uses four carefully structured texts where a lot of language gets recycled, scaffolding students' reading and providing comprehensible input that can be used to reinforce structures and introduce a manageable amount of unfamiliar language.

The worksheet includes comprehension questions in English, and a 'Vrai, faux ou pas mentionné?' question in the style of the AQA GCSE French exam (2016 specification). Students also have the opportunity to translate one or more of the texts.

The texts use three tenses: the present, the passé composé and the near future. As well as practising vocabulary for the weather, they feature simple time phrases and opinions.

One of the texts from this narrow reading resource:

Je suis canadien et j’habite au Canada. J’habite près de Montréal et il fait assez froid la plupart de l’année. La température est variable. Hier, il a neigé mais aujourd’hui il fait moins froid et il pleut. Demain, il va de nouveau neiger. En hiver, il fait froid et il neige souvent – j’adore faire du ski.
