This KS4 French worksheet helps students to prepare for the role-play task of the GCSE French speaking exam (2016 specifications).

It includes grammar revision on the use of du, de la, des, de l' and de for 'some' and the use of au, à la, aux and à l' for talking about flavours and ingredients in French. Students then read a dialogue at a café or restaurant and answer 'Vrai, faux ou pas mentionné?' questions in the style of the AQA reading exam. Finallly, students prepare a Foundation tier or Higher tier role-play similar to those in the GCSE speaking exams for all exam boards.

One of the role-play cards:

Foundation: Student B

You are a waiter at a restaurant in Paris. A customer has just arrived. Your partner will play the part of the customer. You will begin the conversation.

  • Bonjour. Vous désirez? (Your partner wants a table for three people.)
  • Bien sûr. Suivez-moi. (Your partner asks for the menu.)
  • Vous avez choisi? (Your partner orders two coffees and a lemonade.)
  • Tenez! Deux cafés et une limonade. (Your partner asks where the toilets are.)
  • Au fond, à gauche. (Your partner thanks you and says that the coffee was good.)
