The aim of this activity is to build students' confidence by having them write a really hard exam question, swap it with their peers, and then write a response in timed conditions. It is based on the premise that if students feel they can do the worst exam question imaginable, then they will be prepared for the final exam.

There is a starter of quiz-style review questions on the topics of religion, Francis Bacon, William and Mary, and witchcraft.

The resource was designed for the Pearson Edexcel A-level unit 'Britain, 1625–1701: conflict, revolution and settlement' for use with year 13 students. However, the content and questions are suitable for revision of similar or overlapping units from different exam boards, and the structure and technique could easily be adapted to fit the question types of another unit.

An extract from the quiz questions:

3.   When was the Laudian prayer book read for the first time in Scotland?

4.   Francis Bacon is often viewed as the founder of which movement?

5.   What was the name of the parliament that resolved the ascension of William and Mary?

6.   When was the Jane Wenham case?
