Quiz: What do you know about Roman Britain?
A fun and colourful quiz to test students' recall of facts about the Roman Empire and the impact of the Romans in Britain.
The 10 multiple-choice questions can be used as an end-of-topic test in KS2 or as a transition resource in KS3 before doing further work on an aspect of British history from before 1066.
Answers are animated in the PowerPoint, and the answer slides feature extra snippets of information and further challenges.
The quiz includes questions and facts about:
- the Roman invasion of Britain
- Hadrian’s Wall
- Boudicca’s resistance to Roman rule
- the size and structure of the Roman army
- features of Roman forts
- Roman place names such as Chester
- the influence of Roman culture, such as Christianity and Latin.
The extra information from one of the answer slides:
Before the Romans arrived, people in Britain spoke Celtic languages (related to present-day Welsh). English today still contains lots of words that come from Latin, like ‘cat’ and ‘street’, but most were borrowed later because Latin was the language of the Christian Church.
