- Old Norse influence on everyday words and place names.
The information from the final answer slide:
King Alfred’s grandson, Athelstan, defeated Erik Bloodaxe, the Viking king of York, in 954 AD, but Viking raids continued until 1066, when King Harold of England defeated the Viking Harald Hardrada.
However, straight afterwards the Normans invaded from France and gained control of England at the Battle of Hastings. Their leader, William of Normandy, was himself of Viking descent.
