An engaging low-stakes quiz to test students' knowledge about the Vikings in Britain. It can be used as an end-of-topic test in KS2 or as a transition resource in KS3 before students study medieval Britain.

The 10 multiple-choice questions and fun Viking facts cover:

  • the existing Anglo-Saxon population
  • the Vikings’ origins in Scandinavia
  • the Viking raids on Lindisfarne
  • the Viking invasion of 865 AD
  • what Viking warriors would have looked like
  • the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle as a source
  • what the Danelaw was
  • the Viking city of Jorvik
  • Old Norse influence on everyday words and place names.

The information from the final answer slide:

King Alfred’s grandson, Athelstan, defeated Erik Bloodaxe, the Viking king of York, in 954 AD, but Viking raids continued until 1066, when King Harold of England defeated the Viking Harald Hardrada.

However, straight afterwards the Normans invaded from France and gained control of England at the Battle of Hastings. Their leader, William of Normandy, was himself of Viking descent.
