Why go West?
Students use eight fictional case-studies of settlers in the American West to explore different motivations people had to migrate westwards in the 19th Century. The case-studies include a high level of specific detail, and embedded key vocabulary. Students can sort key motivations from these case-studies into the worksheet provided, which outlines five key factors. A set of teaching notes are also included, which provide suggestions for different uses of the resources and extension tasks.
