  • and other useful expressions.

The resource encourages students to actively participate and engage in the role-play, fostering fluency and confidence in spoken French.

How to use this resource to prepare for the GCSE French speaking exam:

  1. Familiarise students with the model dialogue: Start by introducing the model dialogue between the doctor and the patient. Discuss the context and meaning of key phrases and expressions.
  2. Practice substituting expressions: Encourage students to substitute the phrases provided with their own ideas, promoting creativity and personalisation in their role-play.
  3. Role-play with a partner or in a small group: Divide students into pairs or small groups and assign roles as either the doctor or the patient. Allow them time to prepare and practice their dialogues.
  4. Focus on pronunciation and fluency: Emphasise the importance of proper pronunciation and encourage students to speak with confidence and clarity.
  5. Provide feedback and guidance: After the role-plays, provide constructive feedback and guidance to help students improve their speaking skills. Encourage peer evaluation and self-reflection as well.
  6. Repeat and refine: Repeat the activity with different partners or scenarios to reinforce learning and build proficiency.

This resource is an invaluable tool for GCSE French students preparing for their speaking exams. It not only enhances their vocabulary and language skills but also familiarises them with the specific requirements of the GCSE French speaking test. By engaging in this role-play activity, students gain confidence, develop fluency, and improve their overall performance in the speaking exam.

An extract from the role-play:

P – Merci, Docteur … mais j’ai aussi mal à la tête, j’ai mal à la gorge et j’ai mal aux dents. Ça me fait si mal!!!

D – Oh là là! Alors, prenez du sirop pour la gorge. Vous pouvez prendre des aspirines pour la tête, mais pour les dents je ne peux rien faire; il faut aller chez le dentiste.

P – Merci … j’espère que ça va me soulager.

D – Vous irez mieux dans quelques jours.
