This treasure hunt makes and fun and physically active starter or plenary for revising 20 keywords relating to DNA and reproduction for GCSE biology.

Print and laminate the cards before the lesson and place them around the classroom. Students start at any card, read the question and search for the answer. At each card, they should write down the letter from that card. The 'treasure' for them to find is the keyword 'deoxyribonucleic acid'.

If you're short of space for moving around in your classroom, you could use this resource as a loop game in pairs or small groups.

This activity was written with the AQA triple biology specification in mind, but it may be useful for other exam boards' GCSE biology specs and is easily adaptable.

One of the cards from the DNA treasure hunt:

Meiosis

Asexual reproduction can occur where there is only one parent. As there is no genetic mixing, a … is formed.
