Identifying variables in biology required practicals
This GCSE biology worksheet gives students practice in identifying variables in the context of two biology practicals: a) the effect of pH on the rate of reaction of the enzyme amylase and b) the effect of light intensity on the rate of photosynthesis.
In the first task, students match the type of variable (independent variable, dependent variable and control variable) to the correct definition.
In the second and third tasks, students identify the variables in two descriptions of biology practicals: a) in the style of question that they might encounter in their GCSE exam and b) in the description of the experiment that a teacher might give in class
Answers are provided on the PowerPoint slides and in the Word document.

Independent |
|

Control |
|
All the other variables, which you must keep constant during your experiment |
Dependent |
|
The variable being tested or measured during your experiment |
