Knowledge organisers

This knowledge organiser for Y7 students is based on the AQA KS3 science syllabus. It includes:

  • background information on electricity and magnetism
  • symbols for the various components in an electric circuit
  • definitions of basic terms such as 'electrons' and 'current'
  • definitions of key terms such as 'resistance' and 'potential difference'
  • a summary of the differences between parallel circuits and series circuits
  • challenge questions to test students' understanding.

It comes in a gapped write-on version where students complete the missing information and a revision mat version with answers.

The write-on version will work best printed on A3 paper to allow students space to write.

The suggested answer to one of the challenge questions:

Suggest and explain ways to reduce the risk of getting electrostatic shocks.

  • Wear clothes and shoes made of natural fibres as these do not encourage a static charge to build up.
  • Have flooring which allows a charge to dissipate, such as wood, mats made of natural fibres, or anti-static flooring.
  • Humid air helps to dissipate the charge.
  • Touch a metal key to a door handle to conduct the static charge away before you touch the handle with your hand.
