A wonderfully straightforward explanation of when to use the verb 'ser' and when to use the verb 'estar', using three simple and fail-safe rules.
The worksheet includes step-by-step practice of the two verbs, progressing from controlled practice to free practice:
- Students choose the correct infinitive form for translating 'to be'.
- They complete gapped sentences in Spanish with the correctly conjugated verb.
- They translate those sentences from Spanish to English.
- They translate a complete paragraph from Spanish to English.
Students can then write their own paragraph about themselves, their family and their school using the Spanish text as a model.
The 'rules' given in this resource:
- What is it/he/she like?
Use 'ser'. - What condition is it/he/she in?
Use 'estar'. - Where is it/he/she?
Use 'estar'.
