This PowerPoint for GCSE Spanish recaps town vocabulary and reviews how to describe a town or city via a range of engaging activities. Answers are included in the PowerPoint slides or in the notes below the slides.

Students begin by matching words and phrases to pictures of places in town, such as the station, the cinema and the tourist information office.

The PowerPoint then recaps 'ser' for describing a place and 'estar' for giving its location, with the opportunity for students to practise by describing London and Málaga.

Students then identify content errors in translations from English to Spanish and correct them. The sentences use the present tense, the imperfect tense and the future with 'ir a'. Students then have the opportunity to describe their own neighbourhood.

For practice reading, writing and reading aloud, they identify a city from a description and then use the text as a model for writing their own paragraph about a town or city. Students read their descriptions out loud and the rest of the class guesses which city is being described.

Finally, the PowerPoint provides discussion questions about positive and negative aspects of cities.

The description of the 'mystery' city from this resource:

Es una ciudad grande, pero no es la capital del país. Es famosa por su equipo de fútbol. Está en el noreste de España, en el Mediterráneo. Hay una iglesia muy conocida y también hay un barrio antiguo con muchos bares y muchos monumentos interesantes. También hay gente de muchos países diferentes.
