Phase 5 phonics
Develop children's phonics skills with our collection of primary school resources for phase 5 of the Letters and Sounds phonics programme.
Here you’ll find flashcards, phonics games, worksheets, PowerPoints, word lists and other phonics activities for all the phonemes and corresponding graphemes in this phonics phase. Teach digraphs and split digraphs and practise blending and segmenting real words, decodable words and nonsense words featuring all the different sounds. You’ll also find a phase 5 phonics 10-week daily phonics programme.
What age is phase 5 phonics taught?
Phase 5 is typically taught in year 1, ready for the phonics screening check, although some children in the early years may also be ready for phase 5. Children starting phase five will already be able to read and spell CVC words and words with adjacent consonants. In phase 5 they will further develop their phonic knowledge and learn alternative spellings and alternative pronunciations for phonemes and graphemes they already know.
Looking for resources for phase 2, 3 or phase 4? Find all our phonics resources here.
