I believe assistive technology should be available to all students as it can enable them to independently overcome various barriers to learning and demonstrating their knowledge and understanding. Introduced early enough, it could prevent many students from losing their confidence in their ability as a learner. It should be a high priority but is too often neglected or only offered as an aid of last resort.

I taught for over 40 years as a secondary English teacher. For the second half of my career I taught in a specialist school for dyslexic students. There I developed my interest in assistive technology and tutored other teachers in its use. As a result, I have worked abroad in India, South Africa and Dubai. Success in India led to my development of PhonemeReader, a free app designed to support learning readers reinforce their understanding of how phonics works.
