A lively text about travelling with work on colloquial expressions and the difference between a formal and an informal register. Students get the opportunity to talk and/or write about their own travel experiences.
An extract from the text:
So I’ve had a lot of great times. The only problem with travelling is leaving my friends and family for weeks or months. I’m always gutted to say goodbye to everybody. It would be better if my mates could come and visit me when I go abroad. But flights are so expensive, which really sucks. And anyway, my friends are always skint!

Fantastic as an introduction to slang/informal language, especially for the younger generations. Worth the older ones at least understanding it too of course ;)
Thanks!

I give free lessons to Spanish students who are trying to learn English. They come to me for conversation practice. This resource is ideal as it not only provides a topic to talk about, but also gives them a text to read for their pronunciation and questions and exercises to test their understanding.

It´s difficult for students at this level to recognise formal and informal language. I think this will help them begin paying attention to this special topic. Thank you very much.
