This creative and engaging resource is perfect for KS3 or lower-attaining GCSE students to help them to engage with Macbeth's actions and motivations in the dagger scene, Act 2 scene 1.

It includes a summary of the scene, a matching activity to connect descriptions of Macbeth's feelings with key quotations, and an extension activity to help students to write a paragraph about the scene.

An extract from the resource:

  1. Draw a big outline of a dagger. Then cut out the quotation blood drops and stick them on the dagger.
  2. Now cut out the descriptions of Macbeth’s thoughts and feelings in the boxes and match them with the quotations blood drops. Stick them on the dagger sheet.
  3. Now use three colours to express Macbeth’s feelings.
  • Choose one colour to show he wants to kill King Duncan.
  • Choose another colour to show that he doesn’t want to kill King Duncan.
  • Colour one final colour to show his feelings of confusion.
