Useful as a way of helping students develop their descriptive writing skills, this resource incorporates an extract from Kenneth Grahame's 'The Wind in the Willows', annotated so that students can see the range of authorial techniques.

The example extract features sensory descriptions and long, carefully-structured sentences, precise visual detail, repetition and the use of specific vocabulary choices for effect. Students use the excerpt as a model for their own creative writing.

A very good resource but not for year 9. I would use this with year 6 or 7 students.
