A useful resource to help students to understand diachronic change as a feature of language change. Students look at some of the factors that influence diachronic change (idiolect, dialect, sociolect, register etc.) and then review a range of words using dictionaries and consider their former and current meaning.

For adult learners taking GCSE English this is an interesting and intelligent resource which will open up the issue of changes in language and writing as they tackle the 19th century texts.
