Varying sentence structures
A fun resource to encourage students to vary their sentences when writing. Students decide on a story title before rolling a dice to determine which type of sentence to write for the first ten sentences of a story. For example: Score 7 = A sentence beginning with an ‘–ing’ verb (e.g. Looking nervously around her, she quickened her pace.)

I have used this in small groups from age 11 to 16. Thestudents all thought it was great and one of the GCSE students wanted to smuggle the dice into his exams. The results were excellent.
