Use these differentiated German dominoes on the topic of school subjects as a matching starter. Depending on ability, students can work in groups to match the school subjects to the pictures or to German definitions. Students then use the worksheet to categorise the vocabulary provided as school subjects, opinions or verbs. Using the model sentences provided, this task can then be used to support pair work speaking, for example interviewing a partner about their opinions of different subjects or conducting a class survey.

A writing or speaking frame is also provided to scaffold students in giving reasons for their opinions. One option for an extension activity would be to introduce the past tense, to allow students to compare their views of subjects at primary and secondary school.
