German project: der Abend vor Weihnachten

An engaging project over four or five weeks to keep key stage 3 German students motivated in the run-up to the Christmas break.
In groups, students:
- design a house
- label 10 places in the house with both accusative and dative definite articles
- write 5 sentences using the present tense to describe the rooms
- write 5 sentences using the perfect tense to say where they saw the ghost
- present their story to a partner or to the class.
It's a great way of helping students revise the present and perfect tenses and get to grips with cases (the dative case for description versus the accusative case for movement).
Examples of excellent work from the PowerPoint:
- Das Schlafzimmer ist neben dem Badezimmer.
- Die Garage ist unter dem Haus.
- In dem Badezimmer hat Jens einen Geist gesehen.
- Der Geist ist neben der Toilette gewesen.
- Wir haben den Geist auf dem Dach gefühlt, aber nicht gesehen.
