Family tree activity
Exploring our family history can help us uncover amazing things about our family and ancestors, and these stories often feature migration.
This helpful free guide from the Migration Museum encourages students to begin to explore their family tree and the stories hidden within. It includes questions for students to ask relatives and a family tree outline to print off and fill in – or even illustrate with stories, drawings and photos. There is a glossary of migration key words and there are links to some great online resources to students them dig even further.
To explore migration, identity and belonging in more depth, see the Migration Museum's resource pack Departures - understanding emigration or try Lesson Up, a series of free interactive slide presentations.
This resource is suitable for KS2 through to KS5.
