Circle theorems workout
A GCSE PowerPoint and worksheet for revising and practising circle theorems.
The PowerPoint covers:
-
circle facts
-
the meaning of subtend
-
angles in the same segment
-
angles at the centre of the circle and at the circumference of a circle
-
cyclic quadrilaterals
-
angle in a semi-circle
-
the alternate segment theorem
There are questions to practise at each stage and the Powerpoint ends with two exam style questions. Students will need to use the circle theorems to find the size of angles, including opposite angles in a cyclic quadrilateral, angles in an isosceles triangle and more.
Useful for GCSE maths revision or for introducing the topic of circle theorems. Suitable for all exam boards including AQA, Edexcel and OCR.
1. Angles in the same segment are equal.
2. The angle subtended at the centre is twice the angle subtended at the circumference of the circle.
3. Opposite corners of a cyclic quadrilateral sum to 180°.
4. An angle subtended at the circumference by a diameter is 90°.
5. The angle between a chord and a tangent is equal to the angle subtended by the chord in the opposite segment.
